Legislative tracking

Legislative tracking with a source URL on every record

Track bills across US federal, all 50 states, France, the EU, and the UK. Every record carries a source URL, a timestamp, and a verifier ID, so you can show where a status came from and when you knew it.

The problem

The volume is public. The provenance is not.

LegiScan states that "keeping up to date and tracking the 175,000+ bills each year can be a daunting task". Its live counter reports 207,800 pieces of legislation tracked from Congress and the 50 state legislatures in the active biennium.

Most teams still hold a slice of that in a shared spreadsheet. The spreadsheet records a status. It does not record the URL the status came from, the moment it was read, or the person who checked it. When someone asks how you know a bill moved, the answer is a screenshot.

Capabilities

How tracking works

Every field carries its source

Bill ID, chamber, sponsor, status, committee assignment and version each record the URL they were read from and the time they were read.

Versions are kept, not overwritten

When a bill is amended the prior version stays in the record with its own timestamp. You can show what changed and on what date you saw it.

One schema across jurisdictions

A California bill and a UK statutory instrument arrive in the same record shape. One watchlist covers both, and one export covers both.

Matching language surfaces together

When similar bill text appears in another state, it joins the existing record instead of arriving as a separate alert.

Traceability

What a tracked bill looks like

This is the full record, not a summary of it. The source URL resolves to the state legislature. The verifier ID identifies the person who checked the fields against that page.

Where Matterwire sits

Between a spreadsheet and a six-figure contract.

Tracking by hand costs you the provenance. Enterprise incumbents keep the data in their own dashboard and will not publish an accuracy figure or a price.

Correlation into your stack

Tracked bills join your watchlists and the other pipelines you run. A status change can write to Salesforce, load into Snowflake, and post to Slack on the same schedule, with the source URL travelling alongside it.
